"I'm Scared" By Greg "Craola" Simkins Now On Kickstarter

I'm Scared is a Stop Motion short film based off work from artist Greg Simkins.  Greg, has painted some really cool stuff, like the paintings listed below
As you can see from the pictures, his creative design would be very original and cool in Stop Motion; or maybe you can't see this and have very poor taste.  Now this is only a spec of his work, if you would like to see more go to his website:http://www.imscared.com/.  They are trying to raise $65,000 dollars and they have currently raised $57,997, there is 5 days left before it ends.

New Producer For Will Vinton's CGI Film "The Quest"

Will Vinton - P 2013
Will Vinton
Everyone in the Stop Motion industry know who Will Vinton is.  80% of all animation fans know his name.  He has an Oscar for his short film Closed Mondays.  Also, he created The California Raisins, and directed The Adventures Of Mark Twain, inventor of Claymation, the list goes on and on.  Anyway, yesterday Gnosis Moving Pictures, which is a new Gaming Company has announced that it will be producing Will Vinton's new film The Quest.

Will wrote the script with Peter Crabbe and Andrew Weise.  The visual design is going to be by Bruce Zick, it is described as being a absurd look outer space, the film will feature the voice of John Cleese.

I am very excited for this film.  But now let's take a look at the upcoming Stop Motion feature films: The Shadow King, The Quest, The Little Prince, Auntie Claus, Lenore, Hell & Back, The Addams Family, Shaun The Sheep, Mad God, Pinocchio, Goblins, The BoxTrolls, I'm sure that I've missed some but you get the picture.  That bit of news makes me very happy :).

"The Art And Making Of ParaNorman" [Book Of The Month Club]

Most Stop Motion film behind the scenes books do not give you the full on puppet making process that you want.  Well, I can gladly say that The Art and Making of ParaNorman does.  We get to see and in depth look at modeling, fabrication, and of course, the art.  In the 2012 Oscars 3 out of 5 of the animated film nominated were Stop Motion one of those film being in which ParaNorman, it did deserve an Oscar; but if LAIKA can pull it off with The BoxTrolls, then just maybe...

The book is a great behind the scenes look at LAIKA and what goes into making a Stop Motion feature.  Also you get to see the equipment used by LAIKA.  There is an chapter near the end that's basically Sam Fell taking about going onto Google Maps and finding houses that look like Norman's,

"ParaNorman" #1st Anniversary

It has been one year (and now a day) since ParaNorman was released in theaters world wide.  ParaNorman was a great flick; with the premise of The Sixth Sense and the feel of an indie zombie movie how can you go wrong?  I'm not going to waste valuable time about behind the scenes when you can just go visit the page on this site entitled ParaNorman where all the behind the scenes are embedded [stopmotiongeek.blogspot.com/paranorman].  It's a great film go watch it if you haven't or watch it again if you have. Anyway, "happy anniversary, happy anniversary"...

Mr. Peanut is Back In A New Ad Campaign As An Motivation Speaker

The LAIKA/Planters team-up is back again with more nut related commercials.  In these he is a motivational speaker, now he is voiced by Bill Hader, not Robert Downey Jr.  As always the scripts for these are funny and clever; but not as much so as in there previous ad campaign.  The stopmo ads that LAIKA produce are usually great, but these just don't' do it for me.  I have enlisted all the ads below so enjoy!

"Canhead" Now Achieved a Stop Motion Geek Award!

Canhead, is a 1995 Claymation short flick created and produced by Timothy Hittle.  It looks like animation from the '70s/'80s or something straight out of George Pal's Puppetoons.  I think it is an amazing work of art, and also showcases some of the best animation with clay I have ever seen; in fact the animation trumps that of which is in Wallace & Gromit: a close shave which also performs amazing work.  The emotion is totally over the top an the way Timothy got a clay figure to perform in such a way is just outstanding.  I could gush over this work all day.

What strikes me as interesting is

What's Up With "Hell & Back"?

Answer this: back in January, Shadow Machine released information on there upcoming feature Hell & Back.  Now, the info was that it would be released in late July 2013, what is the date? - August 5.  Which makes me upset because this delay will effect Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio.  I am very much looking forward to both films but, it would be nice for Shadow Machine to at least say that there would be a delay on the film's release.  I don't mean to rant, but someone has to ask the question sometime, why can't it be me?  And if you are reading this and you work for Shadow Machine, please kindly email me [contacts] or comment below.

The #5th Stop Motion Geek Award is Awarded to Daniel Greaves' Flat World

Flat World is a Stop Motion half hour special that won over 30 international awards along with a Bafta nomination.  It is really a groundbreaking project.  It even inspired me to make an upcoming 2 or 3 minute long short that will be released on Halloween of this year.  To honor such a masterpiece, I thought it only fair to give it the August Stop Motion Geek Award.  Flat World is done all with cut outs in a 3d environment a very hard effect to achieve.

PS. if you are wondering where you will be able to see my Halloween special it will be released on this website.  It is not done with paper, but with cardboard.
